Tragic Hostage Taking of Hong Kong Nationals in Manila

In the evening of Aug 24, I watched the live coverage of a hostage crisis in Manila. It’s like what you see in the action movies because you could feel the suspense when the reporter said their experiences there but the big difference is it is really happening and it ended in tragedy. A disgruntled former decorated Police Officer named Rolando del Rosario Mendoza seized a bus with 26 passengers mostly Chinese nationals from Hong Kong during their last day here in the Philippines in his desperate attempt to be reinstated in his job. He thinks that he is wrongly accused of a crime that ended his career in the Police force and resorted to hostage taking to get back his job.
I think what really is horrifying is how the Police force handled the incident. The only thing that triggered the already angry former policeman is when he saw the way the police had arrested his brother and his relatives who were in the vicinity. It is the reason why he snapped and shot and killed his hostages. We could only regret what had happened. I think the Filipino Government should learn from this incident because so many lives could have been saved if the incident could have been handled differently. I even felt pity for the way the authorities had arrested his relative, how much more if they were my kin?

I think it would have been different if the authorities could have at least waited until the negotiations are over before they arrested his brother who was also a policeman. I also hope that someone who have seen the incident on TV and who is authorized to make the call would have called the officer in charge to stop the arrest. I also think that it could have been different if the media was not airing what happened during that time because the hostage taker knows what is happening outside the bus by just watching the TV. I also hope that the policemen in the area could have proper coordination with each other and that they could have the proper operating procedure in handling that kind of incident. So many lives lost I only hope and pray that the Filipino Government will learn from this experience and must make an effort to correct the mistakes that clearly confirm our incompetence.

The million pesos meal

Another controversy for the President is raising rage among her people. Amidst the financial crisis of the Filipino people the President is seen eating in a posh restaurant in the United States of America together with her constituents eating a one million pesos meal. She denied that she did not pay for the meal but I think even if someone paid for the meal then it is still much better if that someone is not a politician otherwise it sill still raise an eyebrow because where else could a politician earn his income? It is the same thing because politicians earn their living from the people of the Philippines.

Goodbye to former President Aquino

Sadly Former President Corazon Aquino pass away last Saturday Aug 1, 2009, but I think people had expected this to happen with stage 4 colon cancer only a miracle can make her live. No matter what she still lives not with us but within our hearts and she will be remembered forever because of the important role she took in giving back democracy to our country. She was he first woman president and the only one who run against the dictator President Marcos. She was also not a political person but a woman who runs for presidency for noble reasons and not for political agenda like most politicians. She was just a humble housewife who took the place of her slain senator husband to run against Pres. Marcos. Her courage should be a candle that burns every Filipino’s heart to be noble and patriotic to our country. I hope we could learn from her and hope that we will vote for the next president who has the same noble reasons, I hope a president who runs not for his or her own gain but for the country.

A(h1n1) is closer to home

I think I’ve got to apologize to my readers because I have not posted for awhile, my monitor got busted and I’ve been preoccupied so I haven’t got the time to have it replaced until this Sunday. As you can see in the picture that I’ve posted now A(h1n2) is now closer to home and I think nothing is going to stop the spread of the disease. Last Saturday, my husband got vaccinated with pneumo23 a vaccine for prevention of pneumonia. You see my husband is one of the high risk persons because he has a rheumatic hearth disease. So for prevention we decided to have him immunized with pneumococcal vaccine to avoid complication if ever we will be infected with the A(h1n1) flu. My son was already immunized with pneumococcal vaccine so I don’t have to worry about him but my daughter is yet to be vaccinated so I need to be careful until then. Anyway she already has her flu shot this year so I need not to worry. I’ve decided to buy flu vaccines for me and my husband because it cost less than to actually go to the clinic for a flu shot. We will just go to the hospital with the vaccines because they don’t charge for the injection.

I think aside from the immunizations we need to eat nutritious food and take up vitamin supplements to strengthen our immune system. If we prepare for this disease we will not be taken for surprise and we sill not regret whatever happens because we have done all the precautionary measures to protect our family no matter what.

Butt augmentation done badly

Belo Medical Group has another pending legal case against them as another patient as a business woman, Josefina P. Norcio was admitted to the hospital for butt augmentation infection. Apparently, Norcio's buttocks swelled to 3 times its size on May 11 this year. Her lawyer said the infection was caused by the hydrogel butt implant material which seeped into other parts of the patient's body, nearly causing her death. Norcio paid P120,000 for her first butt augmentation surgery in 2003, but had to return in 2005 because her butt cheeks became uneven. It seems that the hydrogel material was banned from the U.S., Europe, and China, and was not approved by the Bureau of Food and Drugs in the Philippines. For more info and to view the picture on the story you can visit this link

I think this news is really terrible because the public thought that Belo Medical Group is a trusted beauty clinic. This clinic was also endorsed by prominent showbiz personalities in this country. This only proves that in beauty procedures there are always risks involve and you’ll just hope that you are not one of those people who will get beauty disasters in the end.

Happy1st Birthday to my baby girl

Today I will prepare for the food to be served for her birthday. My menu for the day is Native chicken soup, Tuna fish kinilaw, Dinuguan and Pansit Canton. I will also order whole Pork Lechon for the event. I already ordered cake and balloons for her birthday as well. Her older brother was very excited especially when he sees the balloons and cake that he kept singing her happy birthday. The venue is my mother-in-laws house because there house is much bigger than ours and they also had a spacious balcony. This event will also serve as our thanksgiving to the lord for all the blessings that God has given us especially the life and health of our two wonderful children.

My baby girl's 1st birthday celebration

Tomorrow is my baby girl’s 1st birthday and I just can’t believe, it has been one year since I’ve given birth to her. You can read the whole story of my labor here. When I do read it I’m always reminded of the pain I’ve went through just to have her. I’m going to be busy tomorrow preparing for the dishes to serve and becoming a hostess for the day. I have already ordered one Lechon Pork for the event and tomorrow I will get the balloons and cake.

Pictures from our Christmas Party

These pictures were taken during our Christmas party and well, due to time constraint and forgetfulness I was not able to post the pictures here. This is the bubble dance where an adult can go inside the bubble. There is also a pool for children with a technology where salt was added to make the water bacteria-free. My child did not go to the pool because he did not like the cold water. Anyway we had fun in the party because of the games for children. His father did not come with us because he had work during that time.

Beware of sex offenders

I’ve recently visited this site about sex offender online. This site offers free reports on sex offenders and all you have to do is enter your zip code. As a mother of two very young beautiful children, I’m one of those people who are constantly afraid of things or people that might harm them. This site helps a lot because you will be aware of people who have been legally charge with this kind of offense. The most important thing is that you will be aware if someone who has this offense lives in your neighborhood and by knowing, it can help you protect your family against these villainous sexual deviants.

First confirmed death on A(h1n1)

First confirmed death on swine flu in the Philippines has landed the 1st page of most news magazine. A 49 year old mother died in their home after 3 days of flu like symptoms and was later confirmed to be the swine flu. The cause of her death was congestion due to heart attack and it was later found out that she had other pre-existing condition before the swine flu and the flu has aggravated her condition leading to her death. I don't really know if it is already time to panic because as of now the Philippines has one of the most number of infected patients now reaching to 400 up but it's comforting that 80% was already well. I think the only thing that can help us survive this kind of illness is to strive to be healthy and pneumococcal and flu vaccination for people who have pre-existing conditions to help avoid complications if they become infected with the swine flu.

Celebrating the Philippines 111 years of independence

We are celebrating the most important event of our nation; the day the Republic of the Philippines was created and governed by its own people. I think by now we should have to be united to a common goal, and that should be to aim in making the Philippines one of the richest countries in the world. If the Philippines become rich then everyone in our country will be provided well with better social services, better employment, better education, better shelter and better opportunities for all. I’m thinking that there is a possibility that this could happen because our country is rich in natural resources. The most important resources are our people and to think it has become one of the most exported resources in our country. Sad but it is true. It has also become one of most abundant and I think inexhaustible because everyday thousand of babies are born.

Way back when I was still in college, I was a member of our school publication. I write most feature stuff like essays and interviews. I am a school writer for four years and during that time we were a member of the College Editors Guild of the Philippines or CEGP. One time when I was in my junior year we have attended the national convention that was held in South Cotabato, Mindanao. The President of the guild was a senior student in UP, Manila, one of the prestigious schools in our country. I’ve seen her on TV as one of the protesters against the Philippine Government. In fact almost all of the school writers are activist and I’ve seen it many times. During that time the president of the Philippines was Fidel V. Ramos and during our convention our guild leaders would discuss all about the issues and concerns against our government. I think whoever will become president of the Philippines there is still a flaw and there will always be issues. There will always be criticism about them and the way they handle the government.

I am not against protesters or activist in fact they help a great deal in preserving our democracy. What I mean is we are already a democracy and as long as they are there to stand their ground we will remain that way. A dictatorial President cannot come to power again because of the people who stood their ground and raise their voice.

A tsunami of lay-offs

We are in more difficult times nowadays as the global crisis affects our employment. There is really no security in life but we will just be prepared for trials that will come our way and never ever lose hope. Today the global unemployment rates are rising as high as the tsunami as more and more companies are closing their operations globally. One company that is closing some of their plants in the Philippines is Intel. More and more rural banks are also closing as well. The electronics industry is suffering in this global financial crisis. You are very lucky if you are still in your job today and that is also the main reason that we have to treasure what we have today and pray that all will went well for those who lost their jobs.
