An encounter with skin cancer

Last June 15, 2013, I went to my dermatologist to have my mole removed.  I’ve been planning to have this surgery for a long time but due to many reasons It has never become my priority.  I eventually decided to have it done because this mole was painful sometimes, especially if it does not like the soap I’m using or anything that touches it. So there I was on the table fully conscious as the doctor injected anaesthesia on it after which she prick it with a needle to test if it still hurts.  She kept on asking me if I feel anything when she did it, I kept telling her that it hurts a bit but it is tolerable. So she did her thing, performing the incision to remove the mole and we decided to have a skin biopsy on the skin sample. Then she stitches it with a thick strong surgical thread just to ensure that it will not break open, by the way it’s three stitches.  My mole is located on my upper trunk (on my back).   She have prescribed that I take 500 mg. Cephalexin three times a day for one week to aid in the healing of the wound.  She told me that she will just call me if the result of the skin biopsy is already available.  After eight days I went back to the clinic to have the surgical thread removed.  After that I forget about it but then last July 12, 2013 her secretary text me and told me that my doctor ask for me to visit her in her clinic because of the result of the skin biopsy.  I became worried because she told me before in her clinic during the incision that she will just call or text me if there is something to worry about with the result. I did not get there right away because during that time my son got admitted in the hospital because of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever.  Life sometimes tests you…but of course you just have to be strong. So I finally got there the day after my son got discharge from the hospital on July 16, 2013 and got the news.
My dermatologist explained that the mole that was removed is consistent with Basal Cell Carcinoma, a type of skin cancer but there is nothing to worry about.  She inspected the scar and prescribed Imiquimod cream to be applied every other night for three months.  She said that skin cancer is different from other cancer because usually when it is removed it is already cured but there is also a possibility of recurrence.  She advised me to visit her clinic every six months so that she can inspect my skin if ever it will reoccur.
close up picture of the scar
I had this mole for more than fifteen years and I only found out now that it was cancerous, but of course I had my doubts because unlike my other moles it’s colour is more like flesh and sometime it forms a crust over it and got easily irritated.  I read on the internet about this type of skin cancer and here are some of the facts.
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer. More than two million cases of this skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year.
This skin cancer usually develops on skin that gets sun exposure, such as on the head, neck, and back of the hands. BCC is especially common on the face, often forming on the nose. It is possible to get BCC on any part of the body, including the trunk, legs, and arms.

People who use tanning beds have a much higher risk of getting BCC. They also tend to get BCC earlier in life.
This type of skin cancer grows slowly. It rarely spreads to other parts of the body. Treatment is important because BCC can grow wide and deep, destroying skin tissue and bone.

Basal cell carcinoma: Diagnosis, treatment, and outcome

The only way to diagnose any type of skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma (BCC), is with a skin biopsy. Your dermatologist can perform this procedure during an office visit.
A skin biopsy should not cause anxiety. To perform a skin biopsy, your dermatologist will remove the entire growth or part of it. Your dermatologist may send this to a laboratory or look at it under a microscope. The findings will be communicated in a biopsy report.
If the biopsy report states that you have BCC, your dermatologist will consider many factors to determine which treatment will be best for you. There are several ways to treat BCC:
Excision: This is a surgical procedure that your dermatologist often can perform during an office visit. It involves numbing the area to be treated and cutting out any remaining tumor plus some normal-looking skin around the tumor.
Like the skin biopsy, this removed skin is examined under the microscope. This may be done at a laboratory or by your dermatologist. The doctor who looks at the removed skin needs to see whether the normal-looking skin is free of cancer cells. If not, more skin will need to be removed. This is a common way to treat BCC.
Curettage and electrodessication: This treatment consists of two steps. First, your dermatologist scrapes away the tumor. Then electricity is used to destroy any remaining cancer cells. The two steps are then repeated.
Mohs surgery: Named for the doctor who developed this surgery, Mohs (pronounced "moes") is a specialized surgery used to remove some skin cancers. It offers the highest cure rate for difficult-to-treat basal cell cancers. Your dermatologist will tell you if Mohs is right for you.
If Mohs is recommended, this is what you can expect. The surgeon will cut out the tumor plus a very small amount of normal-looking skin surrounding the tumor. While the patient waits, the Mohs surgeon uses a microscope to look at what was removed. The surgeon is looking for cancer cells.
If necessary, the Mohs surgeon will continue to remove a very small amount of skin and look at it under the microscope. This continues until the surgeon no longer sees cancer cells.

Cryosurgery: This treatment uses liquid nitrogen to freeze cancer cells, causing the cells to die.
Radiation: This treatment usually is reserved for BCCs that cannot be cut out, or when surgery may not be the best choice. A patient may need 15 to 30 radiation treatments.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT): This treatment uses light to remove early skin cancers. PDT is a two-step process. First, a chemical is applied to the skin. The chemical remains on the skin for some time so that it can be absorbed. Then the skin is exposed to a special light to kill the cancer cells.

Medicated creams: Creams that contain a drug, such as imiquimod or 5-fluorouracil, can be used to treat early BCC. A patient applies the medicated cream at home as directed by his or her dermatologist.
Pills: While extremely rare, there are reports of BCC spreading to other parts of the body. Patients who have BCC that spreads may be prescribed vismodegib. This medication also may be prescribed for patients who have advanced BCC that cannot be cut out or treated with radiation.

Outcome
Nearly every basal cell cancer can be cured, especially when the cancer is found early and treated.

BCCs are abnormal, uncontrolled growths or lesions that arise in the skin’s basal cells, which line the deepest layer of the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin). BCCs often look like open sores, red patches, pink growths, shiny bumps, or scars. Usually caused by a combination of cumulative UV exposure and intense, occasional UV exposure, BCC can be highly disfiguring if allowed to grow, but almost never spreads (metastasizes) beyond the original tumor site. Only in exceedingly rare cases can BCC spread to other parts of the body and become life-threatening.  BCCs are easily treated in their early stages. The larger the tumor has grown, however, the more extensive the treatment needed. Although this skin cancer seldom spreads, or metastasizes, to vital organs, it can damage surrounding tissue, sometimes causing considerable destruction and disfigurement — and some BCCs are more aggressive than others.
When small skin cancers are removed, the scars are usually cosmetically acceptable. If the tumors are very large, a skin graft or flap may be used to repair the wound in order to achieve the best cosmetic result and facilitate healing
People who have had one BCC are at risk for developing others over the years, either in the same area or elsewhere on the body. Therefore, regular visits to a dermatologist should be routine so that not only the site(s) previously treated, but the entire skin surface can be examined.
BCCs on the scalp and nose are especially troublesome, with recurrences typically taking place within the first two years following surgery.
Should a cancer recur, the physician might recommend a different type of treatment. Some methods, such as Mohs micrographic surgery, may be highly effective for recurrences. BCCs and other skin cancers are almost always curable when detected and treated early

Equilibrium

Last night I watched again at home one of my favorite movies “Equilibrium.” It is not a very popular movie, I think it is not even a blockbuster like most movies but I like it for its story.  It is an era where society suppresses emotions or feelings because feelings like rage, jealousy and pride will one way or another lead to murder or war. Also they destroy everything that makes a man senses or feel like work of art such as painting, literatures, music, also things like perfume and even animals that only make for pets such as dogs.

There are times that the medicine that they use to suppress emotion could be an advantage especially if you really want not to feel.   I mean emotion alone is chaos. You have to suppress your emotion, such as anger, jealousy, grief and even love.   Not everyone knows how to do that so there lays the dilemma. Some people give in to anger; jealousy and some people give in to love. Do you agree that too much love is not a good thing?  Why do you think parents spoil their child? A parent does not realize it yet, until they become an accomplice to their child’s crime. If that child who is now an adult committed a crime, his or her parents would hide her/him or they could hire the best lawyers in the country. Again as parents we are in one way or another responsible for our children’s actions whether we like it or not.

All the emotions that we are feeling are what makes us what we are and we must not let it drive us.  We must be the master of our emotion.  If your loved one died, move on, don’t let grief take you. If your partner cheated on you, move on; don’t let jealousy and anger overcome you. Do you know that most of the murders committed are crimes of passion?
If your supervisor scolded you, don’t get angry or quit your job, learn from it. Quit your job only if it is no longer beneficial to you but never quit because of your supervisor. Accept the irony that you need them to climb up the ladder of success and their hurting words are part of the salary. The irony is you get paid to be treated that way. In the end you could be in her or his position and you already know what it feels like to be an underdog.

I know all of this is easier said than done.  That is why there are helpful activities for people who are not strong enough to control their emotions.  There is anger management for those who could not control their anger.  There is prayer to calm your nerves.  Yoga is a really great exercise; because It is calming and help you control your emotion and create a balance in your life.  One thing also it is hard to suppress anger so it is better to let it out in your exercises.  One helpful tip is you have to have a punching bag at home. Punch at it every night before you get to bed and unleash your anger at it. It is very satisfying especially if you have a mental picture of the person you are angry at.

One important thing, I know how it feels like to lose someone you love in death, How it feels like to cry in grief.  Death is inevitable the only key is acceptance. Even if you have a time machine, you cannot change the past.  Your guilt or regret could not help you; it could only pull you back to grief. Accept and move on.

See the movie it’s great.

Trouble sleeping?

There are a number of things you can do to have a relaxing sleep at night such as reading your favorite book or magazine, watching your favorite movie and drinking a glass of milk. I hope you know that the very thing that can give you a good night sleep is a cozy, comfortable bed just like the one I’ve posted here. I think Platform Beds are a good investment if you really value a good night sleep. You can view the above link for valuable idea on purchasing the right bed for your bedroom. The highest quality of fiber or foam is what makes a durable, comfortable and soft bed that will ensure a good night sleep. Anyway don’t forget to say a little prayer before sleeping it always relieves stress and drives your worries away.

Allergy from the sun

When I was still in high school I have this classmate who had an allergy from the sun. During flag ceremony we would go out under the sun for about five to ten minutes everyday and I’ve noticed that her skin became intensely red and the rashes fused together. An allergic skin condition that occurs after exposure to the sun is called photocontact allergy or photo hypersensitivity. This is a reaction of the sun’s ultraviolet rays with deposited or accumulated chemical substances in the skin. The most common culprits are antibacterial or skin whitening components in bath soaps, scented lotions, medicated or bleaching creams. There are also some medicines like antibiotics or vitamins that can produce photocontact allergy. The rash notably develops only on the sun-exposed parts of the skin.since the allergic reaction is triggered by exposure to the sun rays.

Once you know the substance that can trigger this allergy, you should completely avoid using it. Be aware that this substance can be a component of soap or cosmetics or anything being applied to the skin or in the medications that you are taking. Avoid sun exposure, especially while the active compound that triggered your allergy is still present. Before going out, apply sunscreen lotion to all exposed parts of your body.

A(h1n1) is closer to home

I think I’ve got to apologize to my readers because I have not posted for awhile, my monitor got busted and I’ve been preoccupied so I haven’t got the time to have it replaced until this Sunday. As you can see in the picture that I’ve posted now A(h1n2) is now closer to home and I think nothing is going to stop the spread of the disease. Last Saturday, my husband got vaccinated with pneumo23 a vaccine for prevention of pneumonia. You see my husband is one of the high risk persons because he has a rheumatic hearth disease. So for prevention we decided to have him immunized with pneumococcal vaccine to avoid complication if ever we will be infected with the A(h1n1) flu. My son was already immunized with pneumococcal vaccine so I don’t have to worry about him but my daughter is yet to be vaccinated so I need to be careful until then. Anyway she already has her flu shot this year so I need not to worry. I’ve decided to buy flu vaccines for me and my husband because it cost less than to actually go to the clinic for a flu shot. We will just go to the hospital with the vaccines because they don’t charge for the injection.

I think aside from the immunizations we need to eat nutritious food and take up vitamin supplements to strengthen our immune system. If we prepare for this disease we will not be taken for surprise and we sill not regret whatever happens because we have done all the precautionary measures to protect our family no matter what.

Paracetamol and Decongestant for Swine Flu

The Department of Health had already issued a press release regarding the swine flu and its administration. They said that like other viral illnesses the flu will go away with time. They said that the A (H1N1) flu in the Philippines is only mild and can be treated with paracetamol and decongestant.. The DOH assured the public that these medicines coupled with plenty of fluids and bed rest can already alleviate the symptoms of the flu and led to a full recovery. They have released the press statement to educate the public and also to avoid the shortage of the Tamiflu and Oseltamivir. Only people who belong to the high risk groups such as patients who had pre-existing conditions, the elderly and the very young will be given with Tamiflu or Oseltamivir.

Sleep and our dreams

I have dreams lately and I don’t know why I’ve always dream of my husband and most of the time it’s depressing. I don’t know why I dreamt of this things but I think our dream is a product of our subconscious mind. I have also read somewhere that it is during sleep that our subconscious mind takes over our thoughts. During sleep our body will restore our brain cells and it is also during this time that our brain will try to figure out strategies on what to do on every given situation. I suppose I think too much of my relationship with my husband that is why this is happening. Every marriage has problems and difficulties and ours is not an exemption. Anyway, as long as we both love each other, we always hope for the best. For more updates on sleep and it’s scientific explanation you can visit this link

First confirmed death on A(h1n1)

First confirmed death on swine flu in the Philippines has landed the 1st page of most news magazine. A 49 year old mother died in their home after 3 days of flu like symptoms and was later confirmed to be the swine flu. The cause of her death was congestion due to heart attack and it was later found out that she had other pre-existing condition before the swine flu and the flu has aggravated her condition leading to her death. I don't really know if it is already time to panic because as of now the Philippines has one of the most number of infected patients now reaching to 400 up but it's comforting that 80% was already well. I think the only thing that can help us survive this kind of illness is to strive to be healthy and pneumococcal and flu vaccination for people who have pre-existing conditions to help avoid complications if they become infected with the swine flu.

My thyroid Check – up

Last Friday I’ve visited my doctor for my thyroid check-up. As you all know I had my total Thyroidectomy in the year 2002. I was advised by my surgeon during that time to have a yearly medical check up to monitor my thyroid but because of my busy schedule I was not able to do so. During the years that follow I’ve married my husband and have given birth to my two children. Last Friday I have my blood examined for ThT4, this is a procedure to know if my thyroid hormone levels are still normal and I’ve just found out today that it is not. My laboratory result says that I have low thyroid hormones resulting to hypothyroidism. This Tuesday I will have my follow up check up

Influenza vaccine for my child

Last Saturday I went to the doctor to have my baby girl vaccinated with the flu vaccine for h1n1 and her second shot is on July 6, 2009. I’m doing whatever I can to strengthen my child’s immune system with her vitamins and the best milk supplement possible. I’m planning to have my son and husband get their flu shots next time. I’m also planning to have my husband vaccinated with pneumococcal vaccine because he has mild rheumatic heart and he is at risk with lung infections.

As of today there is still no vaccine for the ah1n1 flu a.k.a. swine flu and the number of infected persons in the Philippines is reaching 39 as of yesterday. As a mother I’m doing everything I can to protect my family in whatever means possible to prepare them for this disease.

Update of Influenza A H1N1 aka swine flu in the Philippines

There were already six confirmed cases that have been infected with this flu in the Philippines. There are also patients that were taken in for observation in our nearby city. Honestly I’m worried about this illness because this can easily spread like the common flu. This flu is a new strain of virus which is a reassortment of viruses from pigs, birds and human. It can be fatal because this flu can cause pneumonia. It is transmissible from human to human through exposure to droplets from the cough and sneeze of infected persons. The virus can also spread by touching one’s mouth, nose or eyes after getting contact with contaminated object and infected person. Incubation period of the disease is two to seven days from time of exposure. Swine flu is treatable with the standard anti-flu drugs such as Tamiflu and Releza, however it should be taken with doctor’s prescription. As of now there was still no vaccine for this kind of flu.

In order to avoid contracting the disease we should avoid close contact with persons exhibiting flu-like symptoms. Flu viruses spread through the air, so cover coughs and sneezes with tissue and throw in the trash after use. Wash your hands with antibacterial soap and water after cough or sneeze. It is also recommended to use 60 – 70% solution rubbing alcohol and hand sanitizers for disinfection. Increase body resistance by sleeping atleast 8 hours regularly, manage stress, eat nutritious food and drink plenty of water.

If you have these symptoms it is recommended to see your doctor.
The following are the signs and symptoms which are flu-like:
Fever
Headache
Fatigue
Muscle of joint pains
Lack of appetite
Runny nose
Sore throat
Cough
Other reported symptoms are:
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Nausea
Chills
Difficulty of breathing

The nutritional values of the Guava Fruit

The guava fruit was said to have more vitamin C than citrus. Studies show that the edible rind has five times the vitamin c of an orange fruit. Nutrition experts claim that vitamin c can be found mainly in the skin, secondly in the firm flesh, and little in the central pulp, and little in the central pulp- varies from 56 to 600 milligrams. It may range up to 350-450 milligrams in nearly ripe fruit. It is said that when it is fully ripe and soft, the vitamin C content may decline to 50-100 milligrams

The Swine flu a.k.a. Ah1n1 virus

I’m kind of worried of this highly communicable disease spreading like a wildfire worldwide. I’m just wondering why there is still no available vaccine for this kind of flu. I’m thinking why has are our scientist not been able to make a vaccine today. I think it’s about time because many countries are already affected with this kind of illness. I hope they can already provide a vaccine as soon as possible before it’s too late.

This flu was a mutation of the swine flu, bird flu and the human flu. It has somehow evolved in this kind of virus. This kind of flu was believed to have originated in Mexico and was now spreading like a wildfire worldwide. I’m still relieved that it still has not entered the Philippines but I’m still worried because until now a vaccine is still not available. There is already an available anti viral in the market like the Tamiflu for this kind of flu but I hope the testing kit has already reached our province. This kind of sickness is not easy to detect because it has the same symptoms like the common flu so a testing kit is really very important to help avoid the severe fatality of this kind of flu.

Treating respiratory infections at home

In the Philippines people are prone to respiratory tract infections because of the ever changing climate. It is extremely hot in the mid afternoon at 89 F and all of a sudden it will rain. Especially now that it is summer already it’s burning hot and it’s even worse if you don’t have an air conditioner in your home. I have cough and colds these few days and I've just treated it at home but beware of prolong and persistent cough with fever it could be pneumonia when that happens it is advisable to admit yourself in the hospital because you need high dosage of intravenous antibiotics.

Anyway I have cough and colds that begins last April 4 and I’m still sick up to now. What makes it even worse is that my two children had also got this communicable disease from me. I have taken in 30 mg of amboxol 3 times a day with antibiotics such as amoxicillin at 500 mg 3 times a day for one week. I also drink plenty of water to flush out toxins from this disease. Thank God today my colds is gone but my cough is still there but at least I have not experience frequent coughing. As much as possible I really don’t like to take in antibiotics but I think my cough is really persistent unlike in the past. When I was pregnant I also have cough and colds but I did not take in antibiotics or other medications just 1,000 mg. of ascorbic acid or Vit. C and plenty of fluids and I’m well. Last Wednesday I have aerosol medication therapy at home, the doctor prescribed 1 ml salbutamol mixed with 2 ml salinase solution for inhalation. It really helps a lot because it stops the frequency of my coughing and I can now breathe well.

Influenza could be avoided if we have flu shots every year which cost 1,000 pesos per person. My toddler had Pneumoccocal immunization but I still have to give him his flu shots. My baby girl don’t have Pneumoccocal immunization because it’s way too expensive at her age which cost about 5,000 per injection at three dosage but I planned to have her immunized when she will turn one year old this July because it will only take one injection at 1,800 pesos. Pneumoccocal vaccines such as pneumo23 and 7 valient are very effective in avoiding respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia while Influenza vaccine is effective in avoiding flu and bronchitis

My experience with toxic goiter in the past

In the year 2002, I was diagnosed with hyperactive thyroid and for eight months I have medical consultations, laboratory examinations and take various medications to cure my illness. I know that it was an expensive disease because I have gone thru laboratory examinations every month for my T3, T4 and Th levels. These are the hormones released by my abnormal thyroid. Anyway I was so glad because the company that I was with during that time had enrolled its employees to a health maintenance organization or commonly called HMO. The HMO is Phillamcare a leading insurance company in the Philippines. Having my operation and laboratory test is not really a problem because the HMO will cover all the expenses.

During that time I cannot sleep, I have LBM or diarrhea most of the time, I lost so much weight, and I have chest pain every now and then because my heart beats so fast and I have trembling hands. At night when I lay down to sleep I could hear my heart pounding so fast to a crescendo. I also noticed that my neck has enlarged and my eyes have started to bulge. My doctor has told me that I have two options since my condition has not really improve with the medications; the first one is total thyroidectomy, a surgical procedure to remove my thyroid gland and second is Radioactive Iodine, It is a pill to be taken in and the patient will be kept in isolation for one day.

My doctor advised me to have total thyroidectomy because she said I’m young and my body is still strong enough to undergo the operation but my main concern during that time is that the surgery will leave a scar on my neck. She told me that some people have adverse side effects like dry skin and obesity to radioactive iodine. I weigh all the options and finally I’ve decided to have thyroidectomy. I was just 23 years old during that time, single and recovering from heartache from my break-up with my first boyfriend. After the operation I have taken in levothyroxin sodium daily in 100mcg as my maintenance medication The scar as it turned out doesn’t bother that much to my social life because as you can see I have married my wonderful husband and he has given me two beautiful babies. The operation has in a way changed my life because I learn to value the blessings that were given to me especially my life. I appreciate the love and support that my family has given to me and my faith was strengthened because of the circumstances during that time.

How to remove baby's birthmark safely

After my baby was born I noticed that she had a birthmark on the left side of her forehead and it worries me because it was very noticeable. My Mother in law advised me to lick on her birth mark every 1:00 am or 2:00 am every day until it is gone. She said that her daughter also has a birthmark when she was still an Infant and she noticed that it grows larger so she licked it every morning before she brushed her teeth or eat anything. She was also advised by someone during that time and she couldn’t explain why it works but maybe there was a chemical in a mother’s saliva that can erase a birthmark.

It is a proven fact and today her daughter and my sister in law did not have a birthmark on her face. It should be noted that you can only erase the birthmark of your child when you started to lick on it while they were still a new born infant. Now I have also proven it because the birthmark of my child was also gone.

A birth mark will not cause a problem if it is not noticeable or if it is just in the body and can be hidden on their clothes. It can be a problem if it is spreading, growing or thickening. My first child has a birthmark too but it is just a small black spot on his left arm and it looks like a tattoo. The funny thing is that his aunt also has the same birthmark located on her right arm. I and my baby girl have the same birthmark located on the same spot and guess what it is located under our nose.

Sudarshan Kriya – Breathing technique

Have you heard of Sudarshan Kriya? It comes from the Sanskrit words su (right), darshan (vision) and kriya (purifying action), It is a rhythmical breathing that allows a healthy and pleasant mind to produce positive chemical messengers that travel from the nervous system to the immune system. It is a fact that breathing reflects how one feels; it is affected by emotions. Breathing when happy is never the same when one is frightened. The Sudarshan Kriya reintroduces the natural rhythms of breathing before it was disrupted by a surge of negative emotions.

It’s quite true that thoughts and emotions have a powerful impact on the brain, affecting endocrine and the immune system. Chemical messengers called neuropeptides are released with each emotion. So a positive emotion affects the body in a positive way, improving resistance to disease and well-being. As always stress is a culprit to certain diseases so it’s important to fight it. Usually stress comes to us if we think to much of our future and the outcome of what we are doing today. We need to relax and be positive that everything will be okay. That is why I also like yoga exercises although it is entirely different to Sudarshan Kriya. One of its similarity is it promotes peace and relaxation.

Strengthen your heart

Stress is the main culprit of heart diseases but we can’t deny that our lifestyle also contributes to it. There are just simple steps to maintain a healthy heart and here it is. Consume high concentrations of alpha-linolenic acid- a polysaturated fat from the same family of fatty acids found in fish. This good oil may decrease the risk of stroke and improves viscosity and clotting of blood.

You have to eat right the easiest way is to remove saturated fats also known as fats from animals in your diet and load up on vegetables and fruits. You can also eat oats because this fiber is proven to wash out bad cholesterol in our system. Drink plenty of water it helps maintain your body’s right ph. Did you know that dehydration and high levels of acidity in your body is a symptom of innumerable diseases?

Try to relax and don’t let stress get into you. You can try to take up a hobby, exercise program, meditate and relax or get yourself a pet. It will draw your focus toward affection and caring. You also need to have a regular exercise program. I can honestly say that I liked yoga because it’s stretching and breathing exercises helps me acquire balance. The meditation also helps calm my nerves and expel stress. A way to strengthen our heart muscles is to exercise so just make sure that you like your exercise program so you can stick to it.

Self-Healing facts

Healthy lifestyle is needed to maintain good health. You have to watch what you eat and don’t let stress affect your life. These are just some of the basic facts about health, beauty and wellness.

Vitamin c is needed to maintain healthy skin and avoid scurvy and since Vitamin C is water soluble there is no real overdose because it can be released through our urine within an hour. It is also proven to boost our immune system and prevent mild infections like colds. Another point to remember Vitamin A is our best protection from cancer.

The human body is also capable of self healing provided that you have a healthy lifestyle. It is said that our lifestyle can cause or prevent a disease. In prevention natural medicine may enhance a person’s general health and longevity. These are the factors that contribute to greater well-being: Stress management, high-nutrition diet, exercise and a proactive health regimen.

The main food of the brain is glucose that comes from carbohydrates. Other food for the brain are fruits, vegetables, Poultry (lean meat) dried beans (legumes and peanuts), walnuts and almonds, fatty fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel, shellfish); and fish oil capsules. Limit consumption of the following: sugar, sodium, processed foods.
Fight depression by eating more fish. Moods are directly influenced by fish oil. High levels of fish oil like Omega 3 fatty acids in the blood resulting from eating more fish lead to high levels of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel good hormone released by the brain
